ACCELERATED READING AND ACCELERATED MATH

We are extremely proud to offer the best of instructional academic and assessment programs for our students. Saint Edward School students have access to the Accelerated Reading and Math Programs, as well as the Math Facts in a Flash Program. Our students are assessed through the STAR Reading, STAR Math, and the STAR Early Literacy Programs. By utilizing these online programs students at St. Edward School are given the opportunity to progress at their own level beyond the concepts being taught in the classroom in a more independent setting. 

ACCELERATED READING

Students are given the opportunity to read and test on a variety of books within a certain reading range, as determined by their score on the STAR Reading Test and STAR Early Literacy Test.  Individual teachers set quarterly goals of points accumulated for each grade.  A "reading activity" grade is averaged into the total grade for the quarter reflecting the degree of success each student has had with achieving his/her reading goal.  Students accumulate points by passing comprehension tests on the books they read.  The Student Council, under the guidance of the teachers and staff, set school wide rewards for reaching a certain number of accumulated points.  This school year individual points are exchanged for "play" money and students are given the opportunity each month to "spend their money". Students may certify in different levels of achievement within the Accelerated Reading Program and are recognized with certificates at the end of each month. The Levels of Certification attainable are listed below:

Ready Reader

Accumulate 5 points. Only K-2 may qualify for this level.

Independent Reader

Read independently scoring 70% or above to accumulate 10 points. This is a one time certification.

Rising Reader

Read independently scoring 70% or above and accumulate 20 points.

Super Reader

Read independently scoring 70% or above accumulating 25 points.

3 books must be a 2.0 reading level or higher worth 1 point or more.

Advanced Reader

Read independently scoring 70% or above accumulating 30 points.

3 books must be a 3.0 reading level or higher worth 2 points.

Star Reader

Read independently scoring 70% or above accumulating 40 points.

3 books must be at a 4.0 reading level or higher worth 4 points.

Classic Reader

Read independently scoring 70% or above accumulating 60 points.

3 books must be at at  5.0 reading level or higher worth 5 points.

50 Club

Accumulate 50 points.
