Dress Code

St. Edward Dress Code Policy:

Our dress code is established to help maintain an atmosphere conducive to teaching and learning. A good attitude about one's appearance carries over into one's attitude within the classroom. For this reason, St Edward students wear a uniform. If you are in doubt, please check with the school office before purchasing clothing or accessories for school use. Students must follow the dress code. Students whose attire does not conform to the dress code will call home for proper clothing. Parents will be notified if their child is not adhering to the dress code. 

The 2026-27 Dress code has been finalized. Some options have been added to offer a little more variety. This will be the final dress code decision for 2026-27.

GIRLS DRESS CODE

Good grooming and cleanliness are expected at all times. Hair must be neat and clean. Excessive or faddish hairstyles are not acceptable. No hair coloring, highlights, feathers, extensions, Oversized or sparkly bows (Hair Bows should be in uniform colors) hair must be natural color.

Belts: If slacks or shorts have loops at the waist band, a belt should be worn. (Except for Kindergarten. They WILL NOT have to wear a belt.) Solid colored belts may be black or brown. Belt buckles must be plain.

Hats: The only accepted hat is a knit hat in winter months and may be worn outside the building only unless there is a special day suspension. (hat day)
Jewelry: a religious medal and a watch may be worn. Only one pair of stud-type earrings may be worn. Dangling earrings may not be worn. Necklaces, chains, bracelets, crazy bands and rings may not be worn. Other jewelry may be worn on special events at the discretion of the teaching staff.

Make-up: students may not wear makeup of any type during the school day. This includes eye makeup, makeup base, blush, lip stick etc. ChapStick or lip balm is permitted. Nail polish is permitted in subdued colors. Students may not bring hair spray, cologne, perfume, aerosol or non-aerosol sprays to school unless cleared by the Head Teacher.

Uniform Polo Dresses: White, Light Blue, Navy Blue Black or the color of their house. It must have a polo type collar and either quarter or full-length sleeves. A shirt must be worn under any sleeveless dress. Solid colors only, no stripes. A small brand logo on one side of the chest is acceptable. No more than 2 inches above the knee and no longer than mid-calf.

Jumpers: Plain black, khaki or navy jumpers no more than 2 inches above the knee and no longer than mid-calf. Jumpers to the ankle are not permitted. Blouses or shirts must be worn under jumpers.

Slacks: Plain black, khaki or navy uniform slacks with no side loops, side pockets (carpenter etc.), zippered pockets, sequins, studs, appliques, embroidery, wording, logos or glitter.
Capris: Plain black, khaki or Navy capris loose fitting (no spandex blends). No designs. Capris must be knee length/mid-calf.

Skorts/Skirts: Plain black, khaki or navy. Must be worn with shorts under them. No more than 2 inches above the knee.

Shorts: Plain black, khaki or navy uniform shorts must be just above knee length. NOTE: shorts or skorts may not be worn in November, December, January, or February.

Shirts: White, Light Blue, Navy Blue Black or the color of their house. Shirts must be polo type shirts with a collar. Solid colors only, no stripes. A small brand logo on one side of the chest is acceptable. All shirts must be tucked in at all times.

Shoes: Shoes must be closed toe and back. No boots & No Clogs (Crocs). Acceptable shoe colors will be: White, Black, Brown, Navy, Gray or Tan. Tennis shoes may be worn daily, but must be worn on Fridays due to PE.

Socks: Plain White or black. (We will have silly sock days from time to time)
Leotard/Leggings/Jeggings/Tights: Navy, white, gray or black. Must be worn under a dress or skirt.

Sweatshirts: White, Light Blue, Navy Blue or Black or the student’s house color. Sweatshirts should be plain with no words or designs. If a sweatshirt is worn in winter in lieu of a coat, a dress code approved polo must be worn underneath. Sweatshirts (pull over or zip up with no hood), sweater no longer than mid-hip with a collared shirt underneath. Hooded sweatshirts and zip up Hoodies are not allowed. The only acceptable hood would be on a winter coat or rain coat.

Sweaters: White, Light Blue, Navy Blue or Black or the student’s house color. If a sweater is worn in winter in lieu of a coat, a dress code approved polo must be worn underneath. Sweaters should be plain with no words or designs.

*Not Permitted:

· T-shirts (unless on PE day or special days) All shirts must have a collar. (Similar to a collared polo shirt for example.)

· Hooded sweatshirts.

· Any tight-fitting clothing and/or any clothing that shows flesh during classroom activities.

· Any oversized shirts/blouses, sweatshirts, sweaters, and vests.

· Jackets/coats are not permitted to be worn in the classroom or draped on the back of chairs in the classroom, they must be stored in the student’s locker unless there is a general problem with heat.

· Jeans, overalls, or designed capris.

· Tattoos are strongly discouraged: however, if a student has a tattoo, it must be covered by clothing during the school day.

· Hooded coats in classrooms, unless there is a heat problem.

BOYS DRESS CODE

Good grooming and cleanliness are expected at all times. Hair must be neat and clean. Hair length must be above the eyebrow and above the collar. Excessive hairstyles, coloring and designs shaved in the hair may not be worn.
